Two items which sometimes cause confusion:

Any iOS or macOS device signed-in w/ your AppleID is by definition a “Trusted Device” and will receive the 2FA “pop-up” via cryptologically secure means.

“Trusted Numbers” are OTHER SMS or voice numbers which you pre-designate to receive the SMS codes in the off-normal event that you loose access to ALL of your trusted devices.

Your personal iPhone’s phone number (already a “Trusted Device”) does NOT need to be - and SHOULD NOT be - listed as a “Trusted Number.”
