Playlists

I recently bought a new laptop and downloaded the latest version of iTunes. I uploaded from my iPod touch all the music that was on it. This only shows up on iTunes when I plug my iPod into the laptop. When I import new CDs onto iTunes the CDs show up on the recently added list but I can't create a new playlist onto my older playlists or transfer songs I've recently uploaded into my old playlists.
