Cracked Camera Lens iPhone 12 Pro Max

One of the camera lenses on the back of my iPhone 12 Pro Max is cracked. The phone is less than 1 year old and still under warranty. I chatted with Apple support and they said I would have to pay for the repair. After Googling this issue, it appears to be a widespread problem. I feel like Apple should step up and take care of this under warranty because they advertised this model as being the toughest glass ever on a mobile phone.. in actuality the camera lens is very thin glass and appears to break rather easily. Any suggestions? Does anyone know how much Apple charges for this repair that they should be covering under warranty?
