No options to change Default Web Browser in Settings

How do I add options for web browsers when there is no other option on drop down menu in General to change my Default Web Browser from its current one? I am using Safari right now and since I have Gmail there are google apps everywhere. I want to only use DuckDuckGo. In Settings under General and Default Web Browser, I click and the only option is Safari, which I'm already using.

Search engines are quite different than a browser.

You should always have more than one browser installed—Safari is baked into the macOS, yes but you can download most any browsers as an alternative before it will show up under >System Preferences>General

VikingOSX above has shown you how to select a search engine within the Safari browser...
