Regarding the hard drive
first time using it. I noticed it keeps on backing up the information every few hours, will it eventually say back up complete or is it something that continuously backs up information as long it’s inserted ?

Sorry but I think I don't understand your question/concern. Why implement a backup scheme if you don't want it to backup?
Here is how Time Machine backup works. It keeps hourly backups for the past 24 hours.
