My iPad is controlled by my former employer through an MDM. I reached out several times to have it removed and I only get a run around. Any suggestions as to how I can remove the MDM…

You can attempt to wipe your device and set it up as a new device. However, if the device was purchased by the company, it will automatically reenroll back into MDM. The company needs to release the device from Apple Business Manager, and then needs to unmanage the device. At that point, you can make a backup and no longer worry about the MDM.
