Fingerprint deleting

I have a password and a fingerprint on my IPAD. The fingerprint has never worked. Usually, the Pad lets me use my password. However, it is not letting me in with my password, it only wants my fingerprint.

How do I just delete the fingerprint?

Go into Settings>Touch ID & Passcode. However, you need to have access to the device to be able to do that. If you cannot open it with the Touch ID or the passcode, you are going to have to restore the device to remove the passcode and start over again. If you forgot your iPad passcode - Apple Support
