Closed Captioning on AppleTV+

Why is there no way to have a default setting for no closed captioning? It’s absurd to have to turn it off every time you watch a TV show or movie.

I contacted apple. When using Apple TV+ from a smart TV, it is now a native requirement to have CC…they feel it is just as important as sound. This “Feature” may not be toggled off. You must turn off closed captioning each time you begin a TV show or movie. The only work around is to purchase the actual Apple TV hardware, toggle to its input, and access your Apple TV/movies using the device… which does have the ability to set your preferences regarding CC.

On third party devices, the Apple TV app will follow device settings for that (if possible/enabled through the OS), or else you may find it in Accessibility Settings inside the Apple TV app, as default for upcoming videos.

Additionally you may turn closed captioning on|off during playback from the Subtitles/Audio pane, for the currently playing video.

If that doesn’t work for you, then I would suggest to contact an expert from the Apple Support staff for further assistance. Contact Apple for support and service (phone numbers) or start your support request online (chat/email/callback).
