A printer for my new Macbook Pro (M1max)

I have just got a new MacBook Pro (M1 max) running Monterey. I expected some problems - new chip and new OS, but ... ...

Top of my list of things that won't work (well, alongside my Sonos software for music!) is the driver for my trusty old Canon iP4700. I'm not very surprised, given the slowness of companies like Canon to produce Mac software for their products. But what has really thrown me is I can find no equivalent quality inkjet printer to replace it.

Is there a third party driver which will work with my existing printer? If not, can anyone point me at a replacement printer (needs to be able to do recto/verso printing and good quality colour. Ideally I would like it to have AirPrint for my iPad.)

If you can't find an updated driver for your printer give the open-source, free Gutenprint driver a try.

Thank you very much. The Gutenberg driver worked. (I haven't checked out whether it copes with thinks like double sided printing, but at least I can now print out my Covid documents :-)

Canon does not show any sign of updating my drivers, so just as well there is an open source solution.

I wondered afterwards whether if I have to buy a printer in the future, I could presumably get one with AirPrint, thus avoiding the need for Canon drivers?
