Help with Activation lock

iPhone X- The previous phone I was using - I erased it and now I can’t get back in due to activation lock. We don’t remember the iCloud account used to set up the phone. HELP

Read the article I linked above thoroughly and carefully. As it states, if you have proof of purchase documentation, you can start a request. And, of course, there are ways to retrieve a forgotten Apple ID.

We don’t know the iCloud account we originally set up the phone with so this won’t work. It says the phone is linked to an iCloud account and then wants us to use that to sign in and we don’t know it. It was my sons phone from 3 years ago and he’s had so many different #’s and accounts.

If “and accounts” refers to having more than one Apple ID, that’s bad news indeed. Each person (regardless of age) should have exactly one Apple ID. Each different Apple ID looks like a different person.
