When trying to update my Apple ID, I get a notice that my iPad and iPhone are trying to be accessed from a city several miles away. I have to choose allow or don’t allow. I don’t know if this is something bad or not. Help!

Only a few miles? You're doing well. Sometimes it can be several states away. :-)

It's probably you. Depending on your current internet connection. Mine often places me in the next town over.
