Working on a word document MacBook

The progress wasn’t saved, I switched to a new screen and the word doc was gone.

The issue isn't so much due to switching screens as it would be by not saving periodically ... either by configuring the Word app to do so or by manually doing it. At least, that has been my experience.

Also, by "switching screens" do you mean:

  1. Switching between the built-in display and an external monitor, OR
  2. Between macOS Desktops via Mission Control?
