Issues signing into apple id

In system preference, I'm trying to sign in and I'm having all sorts of issues. Brand new MacBook and new apple ID credentials. I have separate login credentials to the MacBook.

I keep getting "Access to your account is protected by the password you previously used to unlock this MacBook pro. Your password is encrypted and cannot be read by apple."

Also, I can't sign into the app store.

What is the issue??

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.1

Hi Ielliott96,

Welcome to the Apple Community. Congratulations on the new MacBook Pro !

We are all Apple users, like yourself, doing what we can to help each other troubleshoot.

Your Apple ID is the ONE account you use to access Apple services like the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and more.

It includes the email address and password you use to sign in to your Apple ID as well as the contact, payment, and security details you use across Apple services.

Or

If you have established an Apple ID for other Macs / devices:

When you log-in (on your new device) to your Apple ID online at https://appleid.apple.com/

Your device is automatically added to your Apple ID.

Your Apple ID would be used to Log-in to the App Store and Apple Music / iTunes.

First time use of these services requires a payment method to be added to your Apple ID.

Seems this is required, even if you are only downloading free apps.

(Once you have logged in and used the App Store / Apple Music (iTunes) you can remove the payment method if you wish)

As well as for logging-in to your MacBook, your MacBook password / admin iog-in / is used to allow you to un-lock and make any changes in the System preferences settings.
