macOS Monterey restarts during install but reopens the installer

Hello,

I have been trying to update my mac book pro 2019 (16 inch) to macOS Monterey. However, after I download the installer through the app store, and run it, the mac book restarts. Once I log back into the OS, the original macOS Monterey installer pops up again, prompting me to start the update process again. No errors were displayed.

Any help? I tried safe mode already by the way.

You need an Apple disk installed to upgrade to Monterey since the upgrade includes an update to the Mac's firmware. That update looks for an Apple disk and write to the dick to do the firmware update. The install will terminate or freeze if no Apple disk.

Do you have enough free disk space?

  • If upgrading from macOS Sierra or later, your Mac needs 26GB of available storage to upgrade. If upgrading from an earlier release, your Mac needs up to 44GB of available storage.

Do you have any antivirus or clean apps installed? Id so uninstall them using the app's instructions.

What macOS version now? Some users have experienced problem when skipping versions and for not fully updating one version before upgrading to another version. Like if you are on Bug Sur is Big Sur fully updated?
