Ive imported a few hundred photos into the photos application on my mac but many of them are missing on my iphone. Some are there and some are missing. How can i get all the photos i import on my mac to show up on my phone?

You did not say which macOS you are using. In the past with Mojave and older iOS I experienced very flaky Photos.app (then via iTunes) to iOS sync with numerous missing images, duplicate images and blank images.
But now with Big Sur and iOS 15 it seems to be better.
Except movies without audio track (timelapse from the same iPad I try to sync to, for example) for some reason all during the last few months issue a warning "Not supported on this iPad" and do not sync.
How are you syncing with your phone?
If iCloud, do you have plenty of free space in iCloud, on your phone, and on your mac.
You say "its done syncing". How do you know?
Is it still syncning? What does the sync status say at the bottom of the all photos view on your mac?

I am using Big Sur on my Mac and importing photos from an external hard drive to photos app. About half the photos show up on my iPhone and not sure why the other photos won’t show up.
