Spellcheck on iOS vs macOS

How come I can spellcheck e.g. Latvian language on my iPhone and iPad but can't do so on my MacBook with the latest OS installed everywhere? I mean, I get that OS is different, but the proofing tools are there already. Is there a way I get them to work on macOS as well? Why won't Apple enable this by default on macOS?

Nobody in these forums has any info about why Apple has not yet provided the feature you want, but you can ask for it via

In the meantime, spellcheckers can be added to MacOS

That did the trick, I even managed to find newer dictionary files. Added the dictionary files to ~/Library/Spelling and it's showing suggestions and corrections when hovering, in the context menu and in the spellcheck window. Weirdly enough, it doesn't correct automatically, but at least it's there now.

I would appreciate any tips on how to make the autocorrect working, tho.

In any case, thanks a lot for your help! Much appreciated!
