Mac AppStore, SSH connections, Safari, not working properly over WIFI; working over Ethernet

Macbook Pro retina 13" late 2015, with Big Sur latest update (jan 2022).

I am having strange issues connecting to the internet lately:

Over Ethernet, everything seems fine.

Over wifi, I observe the following abnormalities:

  1. git is not able to push/pull/fetch if the repository URL used SSH. It works if on HTTPS
  2. Safari is super slow
  3. AppStore stays on a white window showing absolutely no contents
  4. Some emails on Apple Mail take ages to show the contents

I have been trying to understand what happens, and I suspect it has something to do with SSH, but cannot tell.

On the Terminal, ping is showing very different results. For example, ping www.google.com over Ethernet shows:

64 bytes from 216.58.209.68: icmp_seq=0 ttl=117 time=14.179 ms

64 bytes from 216.58.209.68: icmp_seq=1 ttl=117 time=14.380 ms

64 bytes from 216.58.209.68: icmp_seq=2 ttl=117 time=14.404 ms

64 bytes from 216.58.209.68: icmp_seq=3 ttl=117 time=13.919 ms

whereas over wifi shows:

64 bytes from 216.58.209.68: icmp_seq=20 ttl=117 time=29.824 ms

64 bytes from 216.58.209.68: icmp_seq=21 ttl=117 time=45.302 ms

64 bytes from 216.58.209.68: icmp_seq=22 ttl=117 time=472.581 ms

64 bytes from 216.58.209.68: icmp_seq=23 ttl=117 time=239.203 ms

64 bytes from 216.58.209.68: icmp_seq=24 ttl=117 time=259.007 ms

Any help, hint, tip, solution, is welcome.

Thanks!!

Try power cycling your router and rebooting the laptop. Sometimes it may take a router five minutes to finish booting.

Try creating a new network location and reconfiguring the WiFi with the new location to see if there is any difference.

Try booting into Safe Mode to see if it makes a difference.

It never hurts to perform a PRAM Reset (hold the PRAM Reset for at least three chimes). You will need to reset the default Startup Disk System Preferences afterwards.

Option-click the WiFi icon on the menu bar to get the WiFi signal strength, noise, and type of WiFi connection. Signal strength is "RSSI" and should be somewhere between -35 db and -60db, while the noise will be somewhere around -90 db. A 5GHz connection will have more issues than a 2.4GHz connection as the range is more limited and is more easily blocked. Plus a 2.4GHz signal can be interfered with by common household appliances. Here is an Apple article for troubleshooting WiFi issues including a diagnostic mode:
