I never got refund for the trade in

I bought a MacBook Pro 14 inch in October 2021. I sent my old MacBook Pro 13 as a trade-in. After working on the new MacBook Pro 14 inch, I changed my mind and returned it. I was going to order the same specs in 16 inch. Since then, I have been contacting Apple to either send my Trade-In back or send a refund for my Trade-In. So far, no luck. All the Apple EXPERTS I have spoken with do not know what I am asking for and how they can help resolve this issue. This company had no regard for its customers last month; I purchased five iPhone Pro Max 13 and one iPad Pro 12.9. This is a lot of money from a consumer and how they treat. I will post my experience on online websites to know how low its customer service is.

Since the trade in process via shipping/ or hand delivery is third party— I have nothing to add beyond the official Apple Support...

See the FAQ of the Trade-in support page:

https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in

I think you can fairly read between the lines here— trade-in can't be cancelled or transferred after the fact...

Reach out to a Specialists via chat or call 1-800-MY-APPLE is still your best option if in doubt.

I am a bit confused. If like you said trade-in has nothing to do with Apple then why Apple offers Trade-in on the Apple store when you purchase a product. Why don't they clearly state on their website that Apple is not responsible for the trade-in since it is handled by a third party.

You will have to ask Apple...

from the same reference link: https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in

  1. Trade-in values will vary based on the condition, year, and configuration of your eligible trade-in device. Not all devices are eligible for credit. You must be at least 18 years old to be eligible to trade in for credit or for an Apple Gift Card. Trade-in value may be applied toward qualifying new device purchase, or added to an Apple Gift Card. Actual value awarded is based on receipt of a qualifying device matching the description provided when estimate was made. Sales tax may be assessed on full value of a new device purchase. In-store trade-in requires presentation of a valid photo ID (local law may require saving this information). Offer may not be available in all stores, and may vary between in-store and online trade-in. Some stores may have additional requirements. Apple or its trade-in partners reserve the right to refuse or limit quantity of any trade-in transaction for any reason. More details are available from Apple’s trade-in partner for trade-in and recycling of eligible devices. Restrictions and limitations may apply.
  2. You are solely responsible for removing all data, including confidential and personal data, from the device prior to shipping. Neither Apple nor the approved partner accepts any responsibility or liability for any lost files or data.

Mnk63, I am having the exact same issue.

According to my conversions with Apple Support (many of which are in writing), you should receive a refund for the trade-in. In fact, Apple Support even sent me credit memo via email acknowledging the refund.

My issue is, however, Apple is claiming they refunded the entire transaction amount, including the $680 trade-in credit, to my credit card.

My credit card statements and card support disagree... showing Apple only refunded the amount charged.

To me, it sounds like the credit card company is in the right here. They have no clue about a trade-in*, but only the amount Apple charged. If Apple sent a refund exceeding the original amount charged, they would send the excess amount back to Apple. If they, didn't, they would be keeping Apple's money for nothing... digest that how you want.

Bottom-line, Apple is the responsible party. If they don't issue a refund for the trade-in, they took your computer for $0... once again, digest that how you want.

*The trade-in credit is factored in the original transaction... essentially reducing the purchase price of the item purchased. For example:

Macbook Pro Price: $1,999.00

(-) Trade-In Credit: $680.00

(=) Purchase Amount: $1,319.00

(+) Sales Tax: $138.34

(=) Amount Charged: $1,457.34

In this example, Apple would send the $1,457.34 to your credit card.... hence the credit card has no clue about a trade-in.

After hours of dealing with Apple Support, I filed a complaint with a third-party service. Hopefully that will help.

I never got refund for the trade in
