Does the iPad Pro offer facial recognition?

I’ve an elderly father who has trouble remembering his passwords. Does the iPad Pro offer facial recognition that will log him in upon launching?

Hi Utahx5, thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities.

FaceID can be set up as long as you have a compatible iPad which are as follows:

  • iPad Pro 11" (all generations), and
  • iPad Pro12.9" (3rd generation and later)

The following link explains in more detail how to set it up.

If your model does not support FaceID you could look to see if it supports TouchID and the following link explains in more detail the process and compatible iPads.

Understand that if you don't have a secure password, then in the event that your device is stolen or compromised in any way, you are the only one responsible for your data.

Face ID is not a substitute for login security, but rather a convenience.

Your login passcode is required 🔐 on restart and other high-end actions such as deactivation.
