safari right click menu not showing open in new tab

Any ideas on this one?

I've been using Command+click to open links in a new tab for years now. Or right clicking the link and choosing "Open link in new tab or window"....

In the last couple of months suddenly certain websites like The Washington Post this no longer works and right clicking brings up a completely differently menu (Forward, Stop, Open Frame in New Tab, etc)

Yes I have it set in Safari Preferences - Tabs to perform this function and it DOES on some sites and DOESN'T on others.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Greetings, EdgemontFarm.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. We can understand why you’d want to resolve the issue with command + click not responding on some websites.

Try the steps listed here: If Safari on Mac doesn't open a webpage or isn’t working as expected

We hope this helps! Thanks for being a part of the community.

Sincerely.
