USB and iPhone XR

I have a iPhone xr with iOS 15.3 installed and I have a Sony CDX-GT54UIW head unit when I plug the iPhone in I get a error msg " no USB device inserted" I have boung new lightning cords and nothing. The phone charges when plugged in but no music / you tube et cetera As this is an iphone/ipod controller unit there should be no issue the USB will play if a thumb drive is inserted the phone works when connected to wired headphones but will not when I pluf in my phone. The owners manual for head unit state iPhone and controls appear automaticly when phone is inserted apple states there's a bug on there end and 15.3 should have fixed the issue... I can't stream my music now and it's frustrating anyone got anything for me to fix this issue?
