Lightening cables operate at USB-2 speeds (480 mega bits/sec)

Where as USB-3 does 5 giga bit/sec. USB-3.1 gen 2 can do 10 giga bit/sec. USB-4 and Thunderbolt 3 & 4 can do 40 giga bis/sec.

Lightening connectors are much slower. It could be worse. USB-1 was much much slower 😁
