Recover from what? Your 2010 MacBook came with Snow Leopard. It is upgradeable to High Sierra. If you still have a recovery volume you can reinstall. Ether by Command R or by holding down the option key till you see your drive and recovery drive. To get upgrades. How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support
