recover laptop hard drive to iMac

I have an old PC laptop and want to migrate files it to my iMac so that I can send photos of a friend who recently passed to her husband before the memorial service this weekend. However, I am no longer able to log into it the traditional way (I've not used it in many years and have long forgotten the password I had set up.)

I removed the drive from the laptop and have an adapter cable to connect it to my iMac. I do not want to format/erase the drive because I want to recover the photos. So is there a way to connect that old pc laptop drive to my iMac without erasing/formatting it and still transfer over old files?

Just use an appropriate cable/SATA adapter and your Mac should be able to read the drive.
