First, recognize there are two very different types of texts.

What is the difference between iMessage and SMS/MMS? - Apple Support

SMS messages won’t appear on your iPad unless you went to the trouble to forward them there from your iPhone. iMessages will appear on your iPad. If you don’t want them there, then turn iMessage off on your iPad.

Settings > Messages > iMessage =“off”
