Monterey and External SSD compatibility. What kind of reformat is needed for the Extreme SSD?

I get this message when using the Sandisk Extreme SSD.

What type of reformatting is needed to be compatible with Monterey?

Which format is compatible with Monterey?

Formate depends upon its use. If only used with Macs with macOS Sierra and later then APFS is best.

Time Machine requires APFS, case sensitive.and will format a new T disk with that if yo try to use it for a new ™ backup drive.

You can format an APFS with encryption for security since you would need password to read/write the dis.

MacOS Extended is used for older macOS' and must be used if you want an old Mac to read/write on the disk

MS-DOS Fat and ExFat are used for compatibility with a WIndows PC
