AirPods Pro Volume Too Loud on MacBook Pro

When I connect my AirPods Pro to my MacBook Pro, the volume for apps on my computer like Outlook and Slack is extremely loud, even at the lowest computer volume setting. When using things like FaceTime or Spotify, I am able to better control the volume. Any recommendations on how to better control the volume?

Howdy BenK91,

We understand you're looking for assistance with volume on your Mac while using your AirPods, so let's see if the following information can help out.

As you're noticing that notification sounds are louder than you'd desire while app and content volume is where you'd prefer, let's check the alert sounds to see if you can adjust to your liking. For assistance with this, take a look at the following resource:

Change the alert sounds on Mac

After adjusting the volume within Sound preferences, you can still adjust individual sound depending on the app that you're using. For instance, some apps such as Music will have its own volume slider that would correlate with your AirPod volume. Check out the following resource for reference, if you'd like:

If this isn't helpful, Contact Apple Support for additional assistance.

Cheers!

You're certainly welcome BenK91,

In regards to your AirPod connectivity concerns with your Mac, have you checked to see if the AirPods are connected to your iPhone at the time? If you're unsure, check to see if that may provide different results for you. In addition, check out the following resource to see if the steps help out:

If your AirPods won't connect

If you see that your AirPods are connected with your iPhone, or automatically connecting with your iPhone while trying to use with your Mac, see if the steps of the next resource may help at all. This will help to determine if the AirPods are setting the connection to your iPhone as priority over your Mac, and may help with how to switch between both devices.

Switch AirPods between iPhone and other devices

Should neither of those resources help, it may be best to Contact Apple Support once more to see if this can be looked into in detail before working towards a replacement.

Have a great day!

That is SO helpful, thank you!

The other issue I'm having right now is with AirPods connectivity to my Mac. I spoke to someone at Apple Support and was still not able to resolve the issue.

In a nutshell, I am invariably able to connect my AirPods to my computer. I have to reconnect them every time and when I am connected, it's rare that I can put them back in the case and then start using them again without going through the whole process of forgetting the device and then reconnecting. I've tried updating my iPhone which I was told will update the firmware on my headphones. I am not yet able to update my computer to the newest OS (it's a work computer) but the AirPods work on another Mac that is a few OS's old so I don't think that's the issue. The AirPods are able to connect to my iPhone with few issues.

I still have AppleCare+ on the AirPods and might resort to getting a new pair unless there's another way to resolve the issue.

Thanks in advance for your help!
