I can't upgrade my iMac to Big Sur to use Turbo Tax app

I assume that if my iMac iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) with Catalina cannot be updated to Big Sur. I am getting notices from Turbo Tax I have to upgrade. What should I do?

A late 2012 iMac can be upgraded to Catalina 10.15.7 but no later. See: A late 2012 through late 2013 iMac can be upgraded to Catalina 10.15.7 but no later. See: How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support

You may want to consider TurboTax Online. It is very good and will run on much older systems. https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/system-requirements

You are ok for the current version of Turbotax (for tax year 2021).

The notice is that next year, Turbotax 2022 will require Big Sur or a later version of macOS.

For next year, you could consider:

  • Replace your Mac with a newer model that can run Big Sur, Monterey or whatever new version of macOS comes next.
  • Turbotax Online
  • H&R Block software or online (runs on macOS 10.13 or higher)
  • TaxAct online
