I have a Macbook Pro. I'm connecting it to my TV. When I use the HDMI cord, everything get small on the macscreen and when I unplug it, everything returns to normal on my screen. How do I keep my screen the same when I connect my HDMI cord?

You may have accidentally selected "mirror Displays". when you do, BOTH displays are set to exactly the same 'compromise" resolution, and you get this:

if you uncheck the Mirror Displays checkbox, or drag the overlapping displays apart, or use command-BrightnessDown to toggle, you get this instead:

Your displays are concatenated along an edge of your choosing, and the mouse moves freely across the "extended desktop" and can drag a window to the "other" display, or leave it half on each display and it will still scroll "the right way".
