iPad Backup

Why do I get the following when trying to backup my iPad?

iTunes could not backup the iPad because the iPad disconnected.

The explanation would appear to be in the message: because the iPad disconnected from your iTunes Library.

Check the cable you're using to connect the iPad to iTunes. Is it damaged? If so, perhaps a wire that keeps disconnecting is the cause of the problem. If you're using a Wi-Fi Sync, then perhaps your Wi-Fi signal isn't strong enough.
