One of my AirPods will not connect

No matter what I do, one of my AirPods will not connect. I have reset the AirPods and updated my iPhone. I have also tried connecting on other devices that are not apple and I have the same issue. Whenever I do connect to my iPhone, the popup shows that the airpod that won't connect is charged but that it is not charging currently even though it is in the case. After the initial connection, the popup will not show up again. Is this a possible issue with the case to AirPods connection?
