Optimize Photos on mac

If I optimize photos on my mac, will they automatically optimize on my iphone as well? I'm running out of storage on my mac, and so I want to optimize my photos to free up space. However, I don't want my photos optimized on my iphone, just the mac. I have plenty of storage on my phone and I'd rather have the high resolution photos there. I'm just wondering if I optimize photos on my mac, will it also optimize them on my phone since they are synced? Thank you for any info anyone can provide!
