Loud feedback connecting 2.1 speakers

I'm looking to add our Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers to our new 2022 iMac, but when I attempt to plug in the connection to iMac's headphone jack, very loud feedback blares out of the speakers. Any thoughts on fixes?


iMac 24″, macOS 12.0

Turn off the speakers system, plug it into the iMac and then turn on the speaker system.
