Just upgraded from old MBP on Catalina to MBA on Monterey 12.3
I have Safari preferences set to open with" all windows from last session".
If I close Safari with Yellow button, or Ctrl-Q, or Quit Safari in dock then all tabs remain when re-opening..
If I use the Red button to close it will re-open with all tabs cleared and showing start page only.
Is this expected behaviour?

The yellow button minimises Safari and moves to the dock. The red button closes the Safari window you have opened without quitting Safari. Command Q will quit the app and "all windows from last session" will reopen. So yes, this is expected behaviour. And has been this way for as long as I can remember (although I can honestly say I've never used the red button).

Thanks, I will change my behaviour to match athough I have minimised Safari using the red button for at least 10 years on the old 2012 MBP on Catalina, maybe I had something setup differently. It's built into my muscle memory but it will not take long to learn when all my open forum tabs disappear!

yes it was some setting I had previously that allowed it because my fresh install of H-S behaves the same way as Monterey. Something about tabs vs windows I expect but I'll change my ways.
