icons spread out when moving from finder to desktop

So, for my job I combine a lot of files into one singular file. The easiest way for me to do this is to click and drag the files from finder and then I move them to the desktop. When I click and drag the icons to the desktop they spread out into no concernable pattern and its just random and weird. However, if I drag the files back to finder and then back to the desktop they stay in a nice, neat orderly horizontal line. How can I change it so it NEVER spreads them out randomly and they always just show as an orderly line? Not sure who would even want that feature. 🥴

You could try relaunching the finder. Hold down the option key while clicking on the finder in the dock and use relaunch. Or in the top menu under view select how you want the icons on the desktop displayed.
