Apple TV not connecting to 5G WiFI

Set up new 5G WiFi in home and older Apple TV will not connect. When selecting the new network it does not allow me to enter a password, and goes straight to screen that says 'cannot connect". The AppleTV does not show the IP address of the wifi network. The network is operating at both 2.4 & 5 GHz.

Any ideas?

Thanks Tim 4 - was able to connect via ethernet and update, but TV modem still not recognising wifi IP. It had been working fine with previous wifi signal so not sure what has changed. Having to leave connected via ethernet to work.

Hi Benn,

is your AppleTV a model that can get the latest TVOS 15.x? That’s the first item I’d check. If it can host the latest OS but hasn’t received that update, consider a wired connection just long enough to update it. After updating it, try the WiFi connection again.

-Do you have a different Wi-Fi you can use to test to see if the AppleTV has any issues connecting to that network (to identify if it’s the box or your specific WiFi).

-A reboot of the WiFi router (and the AppleTV box) is always a good thing to try.
