2009 iMac as a monitor

I’ve read all the posts and seem all the YouTube videos but I still can’t connect my iMac to my MacBook Pro as a monitor. I have the late 2009 iMac and a 2016 MacBook Pro. I’m using the Mophie mini Display port to USB C cable. I’ve done everything from just plugging the cable to pressing Command F2. Nothing works. Suggestions would be appreciated.

carefully read > Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support

  1. Only the Late 2009 27" iMac supports being used as a display.
  2. The 2016 MBP must be running Catalina or earlier.
