I can't update my iPad to iOS 14.0 to use Apple Store app

I keep getting a message on my iPad saying “The Apple Store app now requires IOS 14.0 or later “. When I click to upgrade it goes to general to software update and it says IOS 12.5.5 Your software is up to date

A first generation iPad Air (released in 2013) is up to date at iOS 12.5.5. The device is too old and simply not capable of updating to iOS 14 or higher. It doesn't have the hardware required to run the newer iOS versions. It's time for a newer, more modern iPad.
