Won’t click

My MacBook is from 2017 so it’s getting a bit old I guess… But it works perfectly still! Except for this weird problem that has happened twice in two weeks and lasts for several hours at the time.

The track pad won’t respond to clicks! It sometimes works with right-clicking (for me - two fingers), but regular left-click is just completely out. Nothing is responding. I’ve tried to connect the Mac to a external trackpad, but it didn’t help. Neither the trackpad on the Mac, nor the external one responded.

What can I do?

The last time it happened it magically started working again after a couple of hours. But I can’t work like that :)

MacBook, macOS 11.2

Try the following:

Update macOS.

Try Safe Mode.

Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac.

If that does not help, then get expert service and support at the Genius Bar.
