Magic Keyboard: Physical and Compatibility Limitations

Does the keyboard necessarily have to be attached to function? I heard that “it has no batteries”, does that means it’s completely dependent on the iPad? So, I can’t connect it to my iPhone or other Apple devices, for example, or use it detached with the iPad?

The Magic Keyboard for iPad is entirely dependent upon the iPad for its function. This keyboard has neither an internal battery, nor Bluetooth to communicate with the host device - but instead uses the Smart Connector shared by the iPad and matching Magic (or Smart folio) keyboard.
