Apple Watch won’t pair

My Apple Watch hasn’t been used for months now it’s series 4 and when I go to pair it on my phone it says it needs to update and when I try to update it it says it’s not connected to the internet and to try again and every time I press try again it takes me back and makes me start to pair over and over again

is there a way to bypass this ?
