Photos app on Mac shows duplicates as new when selecting iPhone as a device.

I've had this problem a while and no solutions...

Two devices: an iPhone 11 and MacBook Pro on my iCloud account.

I have iCloud photo libraries turned on for both devices.

Only 1 library on my Mac.

When I open the Photos app on my Mac and select my iPhone in the left sidebar, it shows over 100 photos in the category New Items. But these photos are already in my photo library. When I import them to see what happens, I get duplicates of course. I delete the duplicates, and then they reappear when viewing the iPhone in the sidebar again.

Sometimes the number of photos that appear under New Items changes by hundreds. It just went from 150 to 730 to 933 on subsequent quitting and opening the app. So that's odd.

Any ideas?

Hi

If you are transferring photos via icloud, then don't try to also transfer them using USB - it is un-necessary, and a recipie for creating duplicates.
