Pasting file path name into Search Bar to go straight to a folder

I have an inDesign document and I would like to paste a file path into the search bar so that I can go straight to the folder on my hard drive (or potentially server). However, this doesn't appear to work. All it comes up with is a Magenta coloured folder which says Searching "This Mac" and doesn't do anything. Emailing file paths is a regular thing on my work PC and I am sure I have done this on a Mac in the past. I've recently purchased a new iMac so I am finding my way again and would be grateful for any assistance.
