When I screenshot part of the screen, the screenshot pops up in the top left corner of the screen and I have to manually save it. How can I change it back to temporarily appearing on the bottom right then automatically saving to my desktop?

you need to first open the recording / screenshot controls with the "command-shift-5" keyboard shortcut and choose "options".

and then choose "desktop" as a save to location for them to be saved to your desktop. and also select "Show Floating Thumbnail" at the bottom of the options to have them appear at the bottom right of the screen momentarily before they get saved to the desktop.
