"Software Update" is stuck!

Question

"Software Update" is stuck!

I am running 11.6.2 Big Sur and trying to update the OS to Monterey. "Software Update" is not working and is just stuck in "finding update". Is this a known issue?

Thanks fellow geeks! Not sure why I didn't try this earlier but just doing a basic restart solved it. And gratefully was able to successfully install the latest Monterey 12.4. Thanks for your feedback!

A - The current version of Big Sur is version 11.6.6

A - Jumping over all the newer versions of Big Sur to Monterey is Technically possible - there are those who have attempted and were successful. Then there are those who attempted and had less than good results.

If this is a Production or Mission Critical Set-up - a more prudent and measure approach is suggested.

Restart in Safe Mode, and try Software Update while in Safe Mode.
