I'm looking to buy an I phone in the uk for a friend in russia. Firstly will it work in Russia and if so do I need to do anything different to a normal purchase.
Any help would be appreciated

While it may work, it will have NO warranty in Russia. Should the phone require warranty support, it will have to be brought back physically to the UK.

If you purchase it as a "SIM free" version from an Apple Store, it should work universally around the world.
You should also keep in mind that many Apple services, including Apple Pay, the App Store, music, etc. are currently unavailable in Russia.
