Selective iCloud Drive

I understand somewhere in OSX you can select what apps have access to iCloud Drive. I use News Explorer which tells me on startup to turn iCloud Drive on so it can sync. BUT I don't want iCloud Drive to sync ALL of my documents. I don't what my desktop documents and those in the documents folder in the cloud, only the data from a couple of apps. Is it possible to turn on iCloud Drive but NOT sync your desktop docs and all documents?

You can use iCloud Drive and NOT set "Documents and Desktop in iCloud". I use iCloud Drive every day, but my Documents and Desktop folders are still local.
