I noticed yesterday that the majority of emails, some dating back years, have all disappeared from my Gmail folders. I have searched trash, all mail.. nothing. Why has this happened and can I recover them? Thanks

Whether I check on phone or computer they are not there. Also have an AOL account which is not used as much but the same thing has happened. I don’t know what IMAP is? Thanks so much for trying to help.

Log into your account from a web browser at https://mail.google.com
Do the messages still exist there?
No they don’t
If the account is set up on your phone as an IMAP account, then the messages are gone unless you can contact Google about possibly recovering them.
