Cracking and popping sound from MacBook Pro speakers

I have an M1 Pro MacBook Pro. About a week ago I started hearing cracking and popping sounds from the speakers. I did some research and saw a recommendation to reset the NVRAM. I did that, and it seemed to help for a few days, but the cracking and popping sounds are back. Any ideas?
