New Oticon hearing aids won't pair with Macbook
My new Oticon hearing aids won't bluetooth pair with my Macbook. iPhone connects just fine. All previous hearing aids also paired just fine. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.
MacBook, macOS 10.15

The System Hardware Bluetooth Report for the Macbook is attached below. It shows Bluetooth Low Energy is supported.
Of note, my old iPhone, a 2017 SE, also had Bluetooth 4.2 and supported LE. I also used it to pair with the Phonak hearing aids for interacting with the myPhonak control app (LE) and audio streaming (Classic), either independently or both at the same time.
Odd that a Macbook of the same generation is not able to do the same. I can't find a toggle anywhere. Anyone here able to shed some light on that?
Thanks David. Seems strange. My Macbook has never rejected any Bluetooth connection from any device before. Used Phonak Bluetooth connections with it for years. The new Oticons are on trial so I may go back to Phonak if I can't get this solved.
Thanks rgilbert. That explains it.
My old Phonak M90 aids used both Bluetooth versions. LE for interacting with the remote control app myPhonak and Classic for streaming audio from the iPhone or Macbook.
Looks like my 2017 Macbook has Bluetooth 4.2. I see the new M2 Macbook uses Bluetooth 5.0. Does anyone here know if 5.0 would be compatible with LE only hearing aids?
Bluetooth 5.0 (Classic) and Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) are still two different standards/protocols. They do not communicate with each other. Some hearing aid companies do make a box that will help you create a kluge method to use your Bluetooth LE devices work with Bluetooth Classic (3,4,5) on a dongle plugged into your Mac. Maybe some who have tried it will reply.
Bluetooth LE is not compatible with any version of Bluetooth Classic period. Hearing Aid companies who used MFi (Made For iPhone) with their hearing aids use Bluetooth LE to save battery life. The two bluetooth protocols are not compatible regardless of what any Mac supports. Contact Apple Accessibility Support if you need more clarification. I wish the two Bluetooth standards were compatible but they are NOT.
Looking at the Oticon site, I see they advise some LE devices are only for data transfer and not audio. That would explain why my Macbook claims to support LE but that is only for wireless keyboards, mouse, trackpad etc, not the hearing aids.
Oticon hearing aids pair with the Oticon app on a phone and a few other devices - see here - but there is no equivalent for a computer.
Oticon use Bluetooth LE which will not pair with a Mac laptop. Phonak use Bluetooth Classic which will pair with your MacBook.
